Drupal and Joomla are known as content management system with more improved capabilities, compared to WordPress. Both have been used on many websites. Structurally, both platforms have the same basic formats:
- A core with PHP-based mechanism
- Intuitive information and menus layouts
- Improved security and access control
- Easy to use content generation capability
Drupal and Joomla also allows us to use specific functionality and we could add multiple features. As an example, we could install the Superfish module and it creates enhanced menu with sub-menus that are shown with mouse hover action. With templates, we can also change the appearance of Joomla and Drupal websites. We will be able to modify fonts, color schemes, layout and others.
However, we should know that Joomla is known for its more inclusive core. It means that we could only use fewer modules, but thankfully the installation process is quite easy. On the other hand, Drupal allows us to install more modules, so we could get a greater range of new functionality. Another factor that businesspeople need consider is the level of intuitiveness of both platforms.
A critical element of any website is its content. In this case, we need to know whether it is easy or difficult to create proper content. In this case, Joomla is definitely better in content management. We are able to manipulate text and insert images more easily with Drupal. However, at later stages, Drupal allows for better management of content with its more powerful features.
Drupal has also an additional functionality that hasn’t provided by Joomla. With Drupal, it is easy to run multiple websites with a core and multiple modules. Although Joomla has a clear edge at an entry stage, but Drupal is a more powerful platform in later stages.
In the end, the final selection could depend on personal choice. A good selection of CMS could be determined by specific things. As an example, an existing business could plan to have a greater presence in online business. They will need to expand their present website and gain additional revenue other from the usual physical means.
Drupal and Joomla are also adequate if we want to combine online trading with bricks-and-mortar business. If our business is only about online trading, both platforms are also a good place to start. Whichever model matches our business, we should consider choosing a proper type of CMS. Both should be adequate for our marketing strategy and overall business plan.
Drupal and Joomla offers us so many capabilities and it is not a good idea to waste their potentials. People who have an existing WordPress website could also decide to migrate to Joomla or Drupal, by backing up the database and content.
